I got a new motto from reading Bossypants by Tina Fey. She says you can learn a lot in life from applying the rules of theatrical improvisation. I didn’t know it, but it turns out I have been leading my life by this one: “Yes, and…”.
So in impro you never answer no, you take the other actor’s suggestion and you go with it. “Is that a horse?” “Yes and we’re going to France, are you coming?”
So when my dear friend Dermot approached me to do the flowers for his wedding, of course the answer was going to be yes. Yes, I can do 14 tables in a stately home in Somerset, and how about some sideboard arrangements and an urn? And what a wedding. For me, BIG.
Dermot and Peter got married at Orchardsleigh House in September on a ridiculously perfect day. The professional photos are by the extremely talented Jackson & Co Photography. He took just glorious pictures but honestly, he had some pretty good subjects: a breath-taking Somerset estate; clear blue skies and September sunshine; a group of people so fabulous it was like finding yourself at a party with the Bright Young Things; a bloody fun fair theme for God’s sake!
For the fun fair theme, I used these gorgeous vintage matchboxes enlarged and pasted onto tins mixed in with Kilner jars.
The flowers were firework explosions in Dermot and Peter’s orange and blue scheme.
It was a truly beautiful day. And then the Waltzers appeared…
